The morning 80 million trees fell

June 30th, 1908. Siberia. No crater, no fragments, and a list of suspects that includes Nikola Tesla.

A flattened forest burning at sunset

June 30th, 1908, a burst the power of 1,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs occurred over the Siberian Taiga forest. It burned, killed, and flattened 80 million trees, not to mention animals and insects. Insects, people! Yes, ants, flies, and probably mosquitoes.

I digress.

Now, the area was devastated for miles and miles in diameter. A tribe of reindeer herders, called Evenki, were thrown off their feet, their tent village flattened even though it was almost 20 miles away from the blast. One herder died, thrown into a tree, and succumbed to injuries.

It was called the Tunguska Event.

What was it? Not exactly sure.

The running theory? A meteor air burst, and a damn big one, too.

Others theorize it was a Nikola Tesla technology, and even he had a fleeting thought of the fact. At that time, and the exact date, they say he was experimenting with wireless power transmission at Wardenclyffe Tower on Long Island. He allegedly tried to send a beam of energy toward the Arctic, but miscalculated, and the beam overshot to Siberia.

Word says he was so spooked after reading the Siberian reports, that he dismantled his experiment.

Truth?

Who knows.

But probably. Since truth is stranger than fiction, and more and more conspiracies once thought absolute hoaxes or misinformation or outright urban legend, are starting to come out as truth, so we may absolutely, completely, 100 percently (new word) be leaning more toward 'possibility' here.

Strange things:

No crater. No meteor fragments. The local tribes people believed it was sent by Agdy, the thunder god, and shamans declared the area cursed. June 30th is now labeled international asteroid day, or something like that. Other scientists speculate that it wasn't a meteor airburst, but indeed a natural gas eruption. Others speculated it was some antimatter government tech experiment gone wrong. You, of course, are thinking it's a crashed UFO, and a mighty big one, and obviously invisible, because no remnants of anything were ever found.

So, what do you think it was? A mini-black hole colliding with Earth? A secret space technology well ahead of its time? Or, something else?
