Spider-Man: Brand New Day gave me allergies

I'd never seen a Tom Holland Spider-Man. Now I think he's the best one. Also, a revised score for Disclosure Day.

A tub of popcorn on an empty cinema seat

Spider-man. Brand New Day. Movie review. And no, I'm not copying Shawn Inmon, though I should, because he's awesome. I like how Shawn does movie reviews, and so I want to do a few, too.

Okay, I guess that's copying.

So, it's a Saturday. Lotus wants to see a movie. I ask my daughter if she wants to go, and she does. We invite Lotus' best bud, Anais, a wonderful Mexican woman who's been seeing a few movies with us lately.

One movie was playing in all of the six theaters at the local cinema from noon to night. Spider-man. I wanted to see Odyssey, but they had one showing in the late morning, and it was already past the time.

We arrived at the first showing, thinking we'd get a ticket. Pretty much sold out. So, we bought tickets for the next showing, went to get some food, and then lounged in the lobby, waiting.

Now, the movie.

I wasn't expecting what I saw, as I've actually never seen a Tom Holland Spider-man movie. I've seen him in Avengers, but I loved Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. I didn't like the fact that one of my all-time favorite Marvel characters kept getting face-lifts. But, I guess it's just part of the program.

I now think Tom Holland is the best Spider-man I've seen. His voice fits. His maturity fits. His height and build fits. And his acting fits, most of all. It was almost like he was born to become this character. To play this character.

The movie itself... eh... umm... okay...

Unbelievable!

I was shocked, to say the least. The movie's tone, the character's storyline, the subplots, and the actual entertainment of the film, and the emotional score the film brought, holy crap, it's the best film I've seen all year. Makes me want to go and watch the rest of Tom Holland's Spider-man movies.

Now, I'm fully expecting I'll have a better reaction to Odyssey, but for right now, I'd be surprised if I did have a better reaction to Odyssey. Spider-man was THAT good.

I have to admit, too, I did get some allergies while watching the film. Some sniffles and tears welled in my eyes. Allergies. Yeah, allergies. Had to be. I mean, I don't tend to have allergies, but in some movies, they seem to pop to the surface, and this movie popped allergies to the surface on a few occasions.

And, thing is, I don't like to give bad reviews. So, I won't ever write movie or book reviews if I don't like the book or movie myself. I know how hard us creatives work to bring the soul of a movie or the spirit of a book together, and just because something isn't my cup of tea, it might be another person's cup of tea, and I don't want to dissuade them from THAT particular cup of tea, if you know what I mean.

And, Spider-man... was... my... freakin'... cup of tea. I give it 4.989456781 stars out of 5.

Earlier, I'd written a Disclosure Day movie review. I think that was months ago. Now, I know you all keep track of my movie reviews (the whole three or four I've ever written), and you remember I'd given Disclosure Day this incredible review, like a 4.5 stars out of 5.

I had written that RIGHT after I'd watched it, and I think that's the worst time for me to give a review, because I'm all caught up in it, and haven't really analyzed it much.

I no longer think Disclosure Day is as good as I first did. I think it was well-acted (Emily Blunt deserves an Academy nod), and I think it was well-written and well-done, and the movie was splendid.

However, I think it's more of a 4.1537296 out of 5. Still, a banger of a movie, and one I think everyone who likes Sci-Fi Thrillers should watch, and fun as heck, but after thinking about it, I'm not constantly thinking about it like I am with Spider-man. I mean, wow, Spider-man brought up emotions in me, and a good movie, a good actor, and a well-written character can do that to a person.

So, if you haven't seen Spider-man, I'd recommend you drop into a movie theater, grab some popcorn (I mean, pay for it, don't steal it), and eat away while you watch a wonderful flick.
